Reese's Haystacks

I will start off by saying this recipe makes 12 haystacks and I unabashedly ate all 12 myself in less than 36 hours. Is that bad?

Who can resist chocolate and peanut butter? I can't and I think we all know that by now...

Anyways, strolling through the commissary I had this idea...I could melt some Reese's Peanut Butter Cups, add some chow mein noodles and create my own twist on an old favorite. The Reese's Cups are not enough alone, so you will need some Hershey's milk chocolate chips too. I will provide the recipe I used, but I would like to make this one more time and try tweaking the amounts.

Ingredients
8 .55 ounce Full Size Reese's Cups
1/2 Cup Hershey's Milk Chocolate Chips
1 1/4 Cups Chow Mein Noodles

Directions
1.) Unwrap Reese's Cups and break them apart and place in a microwave safe bowl. Add Hershey's Milk Chocolate Chips and begin microwaving in 30 second increments until melted. Remove from microwave and mix well.

2.) Add chow mein noodles to chocolate and mix until incorporated. Using a tablespoon, scoop mixture and drop onto wax paper until dry.

Sweet Sunday

The photos above are actually the same cookie! I split the batter and made half of the cookies into a Valentine M&M sugar cookie and the other half I just added sprinkles to the dough. Here is the link to the recipe I used:

Must Love Peanut Butter Brownie Pie

Meet my newest creation. After the first bite the first thing that came to my mind was anyone eatting this must love peanut butter. The peanut butter packs a lot of flavor in this recipe but it is balanced out with the brownie bottom. I need to tweak the recipe next time I make it before I write it up and share it.

I drizzled some melted peanut butter and Smuckers chocolate syrup over the top just before serving. I am proud of myself, I only had two slices today and my friend indulged with me both times. I love being around people like that!

I Never Thought You Would Arrive!

I bought a second Kitchen Aid mixer in November and it came with a rebate in which I was able to chose from a new glass bowl attachment or a pasta maker attachment. Since I already had the pasta attachment I chose the glass bowl. I promptly mailed my rebate back to Kitchen Aid and the wait for this bowl began.

Christmas came and went and I thought how nice it would have been to have this bowl.

Yesterday after already receiving good news we found this box on my doorstep. Finally, my new Kitchen Aid glass bowl. The best part, it was FREE! I didn't know it came with a lid so that was a nice bonus. The lid actually fits the bowl nicely unlike the lids made for the stainless bowls which loosely set on top of the bowl.

I used it for the first time today, I whipped up some homemade whipped cream for a recipe I was making. Thank you Kitchen Aid and your wonderful rebate deals!

Sweet Sunday

We all know most of us eat or have ate chocolate chip cookie dough before. How can you resist that sweet goodness? Eating chocolate chip cookie dough is part of everyones childhood, isn't it?

I am still guilty of sampling chocolate cookie dough, sugar cookie dough and even my cake batter. I came across the recipe for Frozen Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough on AllRecipes and I knew I had to make it. First, it is super easy to whip up...it only takes a few minutes. Second, I had some other ideas of how I could use this.

In case you don't know, I am pretty much the only one who eats sweets in my home so I cut the recipe in half. After I mixed the cookie dough I decided to make half into the frozen cookie dough balls, which I dipped into milk chocolate and the other half I made into extra small balls that I can use to add to homemade ice cream as a mix-in.

When was the last time you ate chocolate chip cookie dough?

Here is the link to the recipe I used:

Snickers Peanut Butter Squares

Well.....have you tried them yet? If so, what do you think of them?
Personally, I loved this new candy bar. There is a perfect mix of salty peanut in nougat, peanut butter, caramel, and milk chocolate.

I Can't Believe I Just Bought This...

...and that my only child is going to officially start Kindergarten this fall! I can't believe this is the year that I get to buy a backpack, lunch bag, school shoes, supplies...where does the time go?
I decided to pick up Alexa's backpack and lunch bag now because Pottery Barn Kidswas having a sale on some of the patterns and I love they offer different patterns to choose from. The main reason why I was drawn to the Pottery Barn Kids packpacks is because they come in three different sizes. They have a regular size backpack, but they also offer a small and a pre-school size. I got Alexa the small size backpack because she is a small child and would otherwise be swallowed up by a regular size backpack.

I am very pleased with the quality of these pieces as well, very well made!

Dianne's Spinach Basil Pesto

I recently made homemade pesto for the first time. Thanks to Dianne's recipe, it was very easy and extremely tasty. From now on, I will always be making my own and never purchasing it from the store again. Do you ever make something for the first time that turned out well and decide that you will never buy the pre-made version in the store again?

We put this on our whole wheat pasta just after I made it. I also have been putting this on my cream cheese bagels with tomatoes.

Tea Party, How Sweet It Is

I walked into my nearly five year old daughter's room late this morning and I heart immediately melted. These pictures are what I saw. She was playing inside her walk-in closet last night busy dressing up her animals in American Girl Doll clothing. This morning she set up a tea party.

Isn't it sweet?
Did you see the cute little plates, cupcakes, cookies, and tea sandwiches? I plan on dedicating a YouTube video and blog posting to them very soon. These toys are just waaaaaay too cute to not share.

Starbucks Lattes

I was thankful to be able to enjoy a Pumpkin Spice Latte from Starbucks yesterday. I am glad to know they haven't used it all up yet. I am torn between the Pumpkin Spice and the Gingerbread Latte during the fall and winter seasons. Speaking of Starbucks...have any of you tried the Caramel Apple Spice Latte?
It is actually an apple cider type drink and they add whipped cream and caramel to the top. I can honestly say that is the first drink that I didn't like from Starbucks. It tasted too sweet and I was only able to take a few sips before tossing it.

Yesterday after Starbucks we decided to stop at our favorite Greek place next door and get some lunch. This is the vegetable kabob sandwich. Yum.
Are you all getting back into the swing of things now that the holidays are over? Have you taken down your tree yet? I am going to work on mine today.

Enjoy San Diego More in 2011

I am not sure so much about a resolution, but I have some goals for 2011. I feel this is going to be a good year for our family. One of my goals this year is to enjoy San Diego more than I have been. I live in the midst of everything to do in San Diego, yet I only go for walks in my neighborhood and frequent places like Starbucks and shop at Target or Pier One when I am bored. We are only a a few miles from everything that is going on in San Diego so I am planning to adventure out more.

The two photos above are from Old Town San Diego that I took last week. I seem to only enjoy these places when my family is visiting.

Sunset Cliffs is a lot of fun to hike around, not to mention beautiful. These photos were taken last spring/summer.
Not everyone lives next to the ocean and most people spend a lot of money to vacation in places like San Diego to see these things. I need to enjoy and embrace it more during this new year.

The photo above is taken on The Strand, just south of Coronado and look towards Point Loma in the distance. You can find a lot of sand dollars on this beach.
I have other goals too. One of my goals is to get into shape before my college graduation in April.
Name one of your goals for 2011.
