Need to vent for a moment

I really need to take a moment to vent if you don't mind. This probably shouldn't bother me, but it does. I submitted my Milky Way Cupcake Icing to AllRecipes.com
If you are familiar with the site, you know that you can write a review and rate the recipes. Of course, there are always people out there who change the recipe, fail to measure and then give you a bad rating and there other people who rate a recipe according to their taste buds. Those things are a given and every recipe is going to receive some mediocre reviews.
My Milky Way Cupcake Icing had a few of those mediocre or bad reviews, but the majority of people liked the recipe so far. I monitor the ratings and reviews of my recipe on AllRecipes.com and I noticed that TODAY, someone went to all of my bad reviews and intentionally clicked on them as "helpful." The reviews that are voted the most helpful are on the front page with the recipe. I went from having one bad review on the front page to having them all on the front page in one day.
This really upsets me because when people look at this recipe, they will scroll down and see all of these unhelpful 3/5 star ratings. It upsets me there are adults, mean trolls out there who take pleasure in ruining something like this for their pleasure. My review for my own recipe offers some advice and is quite helpful and was rated the most helpful until today when it was knocked down as whoever is out there rating the bad reviews and bumping those up to make me look bad and knocking truly helpful reviews off the front page.
Don't tell me that it shouldn't bother me because it does. I contacted AllRecipes.com about the intentional sabotage of the recipe and I am waiting to hear back from them about the matter. Thank you for allowing me to vent.

  1. That would upset me too so don't feel bad. Some people just enjoy being mean and like bringing other people down. I'm sorry that happened with your recipe :( I haven't had a chance to make it yet, but it's been on my list!!

  2. I really hate trolls/: I'm sorry you had to experience this but I think you have to move on from the situation. We can't let every little thing in our lives upset us. I used to do that and there was so much drama in my life. So next time you get angry, just step back from the situation and forget about it. Because whoever invented that phrase "there's no use crying over spilled milk" was very right. Also Eleanor Rosevelt once said- "no one can make you feel inferior without your consent". Don't let those trolls make you feel that way.

  3. Bleh, that is the thing I hate most about Allrecipes.com - the bad and unhelpful reviews. I hate when people modify the crap out of a recipe and then give it a bad review without even attempting to do it as directed especially! I'd be upset about the review troll too, so don't feel too bad. I hope that the Allrecipes.com staff corrects the issue.

  4. Rant away! I am in complete agreement about some allrecipes reviewers. (I have been using since 2003 & member since 2005). It is maddening when a recipe is given low reviews and upon further reading, the reviewer didn't even follow the recipe!! Your cupcakes look amazing & I may try this recipe soon as my husband's favorite candy is Milky Way. The world is full of disagreeable trolls.

  5. I understand ! Allrecipes is such a great site, so I hope they can figure out a way to prevent this kind of sabotage. But I learned something from your experience: I won't necessarily take the "front page" reviews as being representative of all the reviews.

Have you posted your Pumpkin Latte recipe yet? I read your blog about the vanilla syrup, and I'm eager to try your latte recipe. 'Tis the season for pumpkin!

  6. FRUSTRATING!!! I never read the review of people who changed the recipe...you can't change the ending of a book and write a review about that, so you shouldn't be allowed to do it with a recipe!!!
Anyways, I found your recipes on allrecipes awhile back and now follow your blog, we must have the same taste in food, because I love all of your stuff!

  7. I feel for you! I stopped visiting the exchange around this time last year because the nastiness and junior high style behavior of some of these grown women is unbelievable! Hopefully AR does something about what happened to you!

  9. Okay, just checked my recipe again and now one of the 3/5 star ratings which had little to not helpful votes suddenly had 18 and has been bumped up the third most "helpful" review of my recipe. I could honestly scream. For all I know the pathetic coward reads this blog too and is getting more enjoyment out of reading this. Loser.

  10. I was just telling Deanna today how people can be so'wishy-washy' (a nice way of saying downright nasty one day and sugar and spice the next). I told her it seems people around here never grow up. I cannot believe an adult would be so nasty!! Hopefully, they can stop whoever is doing that. Sounds like they are jealous of you.

  12. The stuff that happens on that site makes me want to punch something, for real! Your recipes always sound phenominal. The trolls are out in force, I 'spose. I know it's easier said than done, but try to not let it get to you. I had one of the trolls go through my recipe box and rate every recipe I submitted with one star...I guess you have to admire the persistence, but it's really frustrating. Just think of it this way, you must be interesting to them for them to take their time to do these things! Keep on making up those sweet creations, I'll keep on reading!

  13. Your right WitchyWoman, and I think it would be worse to have someone actually RATE your recipe like they did yours. It stings and I guess that is what they want but I am getting over it. Thanks for responding! :)

  14. I am so sorry hun. I can not believe someone would do that to you. You are so sweet and an amazing cook. People that do things like that are just insecure, jealous little twits and do not deserve your time or energy. Karma is a bitch and they will get theirs in the end. Keep your chin up and keep cooking/baking!!!! I love seeing what you make :)

  16. You have to remember that some people don't have a life outside of their computer. And these are the people who have a negative outlook on life, and, for some reason, like to try to make others feel as bad as they do. I have thought about submitting a recipe on Allrecipes as well, but haven't. You are truly brave, and, as far as I am concerned, an amazing baker. Keep your chin up and remember there are PLENTY of us out there who love your recipes!
